I have learned a lot about creating and communicating through digital media throughout this quarter. I was given opportunities to be very creative and made fun projects in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Knightlab's Timeline maker. I enjoyed creating in these different mediums while also employing specific writing skills in both the projects and the project reports. I now have a newfound appreciation for those who create digital media because of the work it takes to develop good media pieces. Growing up with digital content everywhere throughout my life made me much less aware of its work to make things as simple as an edited image or poster. Having done these projects now makes me much more appreciative of creatives who utilize their talents to create digital media that is both informative and well created.  

 

Most importantly, I learned the importance of pushing messages through the media. Digital media has revolutionized the way people consume information, meaning that people will gravitate toward things that interest them or have a reason to engage them. Thus, the biggest takeaway from WRIT 105M is the importance of having a message when creating a media piece. Having a targeted audience in mind is as important as the piece itself when creating digital media. Many people now find that digital media can be very disposable because something can look flashy and have little to no substance. Creating content geared toward a specific audience to push a message adds that layer of nuance to digital communication. This was an important lesson for me to learn as it put into perspective the factor that separates good media from disposable media. Now, I have developed skills that will allow me to create new pieces of media that are more informed and targeted toward specific audiences by taking this course.
